Next office hours
You can book the same time as other students. Booking is how I know you are coming, so book before you show up.
Below 45% raw on an IA?
You must attend office hours once a week in Quarter 2. Your raw score is in the notes on PowerSchool, and it converts to a curved score of 78 or below. If you do not attend, you are not eligible for any curves in Q2. See Academic expectations.
Missed classwork?
Office hours are required to make it up. If you do not come, it is a zero. See Academic expectations.
Academic expectations
Classwork is done in class
Classwork can only be done during class.
Missed assessments
You can make up an assessment during assessment hour every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30. If you do not attempt an assessment, it is a zero.
Missed classwork
If you miss classwork, you must come to office hours to complete it. If you do not, it is a zero.
Low Interim Assessment score
If you scored below 45% raw on your IA, you are required to attend office hours once a week in Quarter 2. Your raw score is in the notes on PowerSchool, and it converts to a curved score of 78 or below. If you do not attend, you are not eligible for any curves in Q2.
IA reflection, due November 13
If you scored below 75% raw on your IA (a curved score of 89 or below), you are required to complete the IA reflection by Friday, November 13. It is an Edpuzzle assignment, posted on Google Classroom.
Notebook every day
Bring your notebook to class every day. It is expected to have an up-to-date table of contents.
No AI in your solutions
Your work has to be your own thinking. Do not use AI to produce solutions. If you do use it, you must explain the whole solution, fully and in your own words, in a video.
Uncommon expectations

Be on time, every day
Arrive on time and ready to learn. If you are absent, you or your family should email the school that day. More than 18 absences makes a student chronically absent, which can put promotion at risk.
Phones and devices stay off and out of sight
Phones, smartwatches, earbuds and smart glasses must be off and out of sight in the building. Staff can take a device and your family will be contacted. Use only your own school account, never share passwords, and do not install software without permission.
Academic integrity
Cheating and other academic integrity violations can lead to discipline. Do not put your own or anyone else's personal information into AI tools.
Homework is due the same night
Homework is due the night of the lesson, by 2 am. Scan it and upload it with the Submit button on the assignment. If you truly cannot scan or upload, email Mr. Hooshmand ahead of time at rumi.hooshmand@uncommonnyc.org and hand it to him in person before first period.
Homework is practice
Homework builds independent work, self-discipline and time management. Do it yourself.
Uniform
Wear the Uncommon uniform at all times: logo shirt tucked in, dark gray bottoms, all-black sneakers or black or brown shoes, and a black or brown belt with pants.
Respect and routines
Be respectful, no profanity, and no interrupting. No gum on campus. Do not skip class. Do not bring toys or other personal items unless a teacher asks you to.
More rules and expectations will be added here.
Grades
The scale
Grades run from 55 to 100. The lowest passing grade is a C, and you need a cumulative average of at least 70 for the year to pass a course.
Report cards
Report cards come out four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
Honor Roll
You earn Honor Roll each quarter with all B's or better, and High Honors with straight A's. It goes on your permanent report card.
Moving up
Uncommon does not promote students who have not met the standards. In high school, failing one or two core courses means you must attend and pass summer school to move up. Failing three or more means repeating the grade, and a repeated grade means retaking every course.
Summer school credit recovery
Summer school runs six weeks. To pass, you must attend at least 90% of class time, complete at least 90% of classwork, homework and assessments, and earn 70% or higher. A high pass replaces the failed grade with a 75, and a pass replaces it with a 70.
Attendance counts
More than 18 absences makes a student chronically absent, which can lead to repeating the grade.
